Unemployment

but fails to find the work. Unemployment also used as the measure of economic
health of a nation. However, its alarming situation for Pakistan since its rate
of unemployment is steadily increasing year by year. According to economic
survey 2015-2016 unemployment rate of
Pakistan is 6% which was 4.3% couple of year ago.
Causes
of Unemployment:
(i)
Energy
Crisis:
Because
of energy crisis the industrial and corporate sector is damaged badly.
Factories and mills are forced to shut down because of no power supply. This
situation is the core participant of unemployment in Pakistan.
(ii)
Corruption:
Corrupt
administration is another contributor to unemployment where the one offering
bribe is prioritized over deserved and/or worthy candidate. Asking for bribes
in recruitment process is so common practice in Pakistan which discourages and
causes frustration in youngsters.
(iii) Population:
The
rapidly increasing population of Pakistan is unpropitious. The scarce resources
are unable to fulfill the needs of increasing population so as the corporate
world. The supply and demand of labor is imbalance in Pakistan since the supply
exceeds the demand of labor, which causes unemployment.
Impacts
of Unemployment:
(i)
Poverty:
Unemployment leads to poverty, and
poverty leads to social and economical destruction. Poverty refers to a
condition when people don’t have resources to fulfill their basic needs to
survive. Poverty has destructive results on nation which may lead to civil
wars.
(ii)
Crime:
This is the subsequent level of
poverty where unemployed person opts to get into criminal activities to fulfill
his basic needs for survival. Such criminal activities lead to serious crimes.
(iii) Terrorism:
This is the ultimate threat from unemployment,
when an unemployed person, sick & tired of poverty, joins the terrorist
organization or rebellions. Such activities directly go against national
interests. This is the core reason behind increasing terrorist activities in
Pakistan.
(iv) Drug Addiction and Trafficking:
Unemployment leads to a frustrated
state of mind. For peace of mind mostly people (who are unemployed for a longer
time) start doing drugs. A drug is any substance other than food, that when
inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed or absorbed causes a physiological change
in the body e.g. Marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, and heroin etc. The
excessive consumption of drugs leads to drug trafficking where the consumer
starts drugs-trading for the sake of money.
(v)
Suicide:
It is an unfortunate
situation where unemployed person feels helpless and tries to end his life by
committing suicide. There are thousands of reported suicide cases relating to
unemployment in Pakistan.
